Information that might help with situations like the Baltimore riots

Today is April 28th,  – Concerning the riots in Baltimore and the Presidents call to action

I just saw The President on TV talking about the riots in Baltimore.

“Americans need to do some "soul searching" about equal opportunity, poverty, and other problems in parts of the nation. He noted that he appointed a task force to make recommendations in the wake of police killings in Missouri and New York.”

I would like to suggest that someone in the White House research  an amazing man and organization Called Open Door Youth Alternatives. Located in Denver, Colorado.

Several years ago there was an article in the newspaper about Reverend Leon Kelly.  My husband called him and volunteered a few times and told me what a courageous man he is.  I have never met him.

Reverend Leon Kelly initially worked with several gangs for the purpose of stopping violence and tries to show them a different way of life.  Although he worked with gangs for MANY years, he found that the best way to dispose of gangs and other violent acts was to start with the younger youth who seem to be more receptive in changing their lives than the older gang members.

Reverend Leon Kelly was the founder of this group. The Open Door’s influence has been AMAZING.

About Open Door

Open Door’s most important goal is to prevent kids from ever joining gangs. Open Door has developed successful programs with elementary and middle school-aged children that focus on prevention.   Our programs are tailored for schools, corporations, other non-profit agencies, law enforcement agencies and civic groups.  The programs seek to educate people and the community on the signs revolving around gang recruitment, violence, and involvement. In addition, Open Door also spearheads a program with the State of Colorado, Department of Corrections that aims to reduce recidivism among gang-affiliated parolees. Flippin’ the Script creates specialized and individualized plans which offer assistance in the areas of housing, employment, job readiness, transportation, money management, mentoring, family relationships, and support systems.
